Some of Asia’s biggest names – including Korean actor Lee Joon Gi and Hong Kong actor Joe Ma – were in town for the inaugural StarHub Night Of Stars Awards ceremony on 22 December 2018.
The event, which was hosted by local telco StarHub, was held at Sands Theatre at Marina Bay Sands. The Red Carpet event held prior to the awards ceremony saw artistes such as Cosmic Girls, A.C.E., Jeong Sewoon and Lee Joon Gi – to the delight of the hundreds of fans that were gathered outside the Sands Theatre, hoping to catch a glimpse of their favourite stars.
The evening awards ceremony was helmed by Taiwanese hosts Dennis Nieh and Lulu Huang, as well as local actress Kate Pang. The trio brought laughter to the audience with their comedic hosting throughout the night.
Korean rookie boy group A.C.E won the 2018 StarHub Best Newcomer Award. The group, which debuted in May 2017, then celebrated their win by performing ‘Cactus’ and ‘Take Me Higher’.
Rising singer Jeong Sewoon bagged the 2018 StarHub Best Asian Drama OST Award and wowed the audience with his honey vocals as he performed ‘It’s You’, OST from popular Korean drama ‘What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim’.
Sewoon’s label-mate, Cosmic Girls, were awarded the 2018 StarHub Most Charismatic Performance Award. They took the opportunity to thank their fans and company, Starship Entertainment, for their everlasting support. Member Eunseo impressed the audience with her speech in Mandarin before rounding up their appearance on stage with a performance of ‘Secret’ and ‘Save Me Save You’.
Not forgetting EXO’s Kai that won the 2018 StarHub Favourite Korean Drama Character Award – proving his popularity with the most votes in that category.
Korean heartthrob Lee Joon Gi took home the one of the night’s biggest award – 2018 StarHub Best Male Asian Star Award. His portrayal of a gangster-turned-lawyer in ‘Lawless Lawyer’ took home the much-coveted spot of being the highest rated drama in the Korea cable television history and we are sure he would be gracing our screens very soon!
Other notable winners were Chinese actress Qin Lan who bagged the 2018 StarHub Best Female Asian Star Award for her portrayal of a warm-hearted, gentle empress that was thrown into the turmoil of the imperial harem in ‘Yanxi Palace’. Her co-star, Singaporean actor Lawrence Wong also scored the 2018 StarHub Breakthrough Star Award. The mutli-talented artiste also dazzled the crowd with a performance of his latest single.
From Taiwan, veteran actress Chen Meifeng won the 2018 StarHub Evergreen Artiste Award while fellow veteran host Pauline Lan won the StarHub Best Host Award. Actors Derek Chang and Jasper Liu were presented with the 2018 Starhub Rising Star Award and 2018 StarHub Dazzling Star Award respectively.
Proving that experience is key, Hong Kong actor Joe Ma who played a head paramedic in ‘Life on The Line’ received the 2018 StarHub Best Actor In A Leading Role Award. Fellow Hong Kong actress Rebecca Zhu’s portrayal of a lively stuntwoman in ‘The Stunt’ also earned her the 2018 StarHub Best TVB Drama Character Award.
The StarHub Night of Stars is truly a memorable night of entertainment and celebration of one of Asia’s bests.
