DOH KYUNG SOO DOES IT AGAIN WITH HIS ASIA CONCERT TOUR IN SINGAPORE

Seoully Singapore

If you were at Doh Kyung Soo’s Asia Fan Concert ‘BLOOM’ in Singapore last year, you might remember his promise to meet fans again. And true enough, in just a year, he is back much sooner than we thought – for a full length solo concert on 23 August. He brought along a live band and to fans’ delight, a lot more singing.

The lights dimmed, signalling that it is DO it time! Kyung Soo’s live band, which he affectionately introduced midway through the concert as the “DOHper band” kicked things off with the intro and the concert opened with nostalgic pop track “Do You Remember”. Kyung Soo’s powerful vocals resonated throughout the venue as he emerged on stage to an eruption of cheers from the crowd. In that moment, we knew we were in for a night of pure bliss and fun.

If last year’s fan concert was to get to know Kyung Soo better as an individual, singer and actor, then this year’s concert fully focused on the talent of his that was first discovered – singing.

He made sure that the setlist included tracks from all releases and that they were songs of diverse sounds. From singles to the mini/full albums and K-drama OST releases over the years, Kyung Soo has accumulated a decent discography of diverse sounds under his solo promotions.

The concert setlist included recent fan-favourites like “Mars” and “Popcorn”, where he was happily bopping around on stage – with the fanchants sounding really cute, to heartfelt ballads like “It’s Love” and “My Dear” where he was lifted up mid-air serenading against a picturesque night backdrop of a moonlit sea.

There were also songs that were rarely performed live – “I’m Gonna Love You” ft. Wonstein and “Rose” were some of the few. Oh yes, we definitely cannot leave out the R&B genre – his soulful performance of “Fit” from the latest album got fans wild.

When describing Kyung Soo, Sentimental and Thoughtful are words that come to mind.

Hoping to convey the message in his songs well to international fans, Kyung Soo shared about showing the lyrics to his songs in English on screen. Instead of the usual Korean romanised lyrics that you will get at Korean concerts which are perfect for the sing-alongs, this style was less common – which we felt was really sweet and thoughtful!

While most singers out there have majority of their discography made up of songs that sing themes of love, we realised that Kyung Soo’s songs are mostly love songs that can be interpreted and directed towards fans or otherwise, songs of comfort.

One memorable set of songs that warmed hearts were the ones where he specifically introduced and performed in order saying that it was a message that he wanted to tell fans – “That’s Okay” and that “I’ll Be There”.

Talk about sentimental, there was even a special sing-along medley of EXO’s all-time hits weaved into the concert. Songs such as “First Snow”, “Don’t Go”, “Peter Pan” and “Growl” were played, sparking a mass karaoke in the venue just before Kyung Soo came back on stage to join in towards the end of “Love Me Right”; donning a new look and vibe in full-black. He belatedly shared his longing for the group activities. Well that is us too.

A large crowd enjoys a live music performance on stage, featuring bright stage lights and multiple video screens displaying a performer, in a concert setting.

Having experienced a near 120-minute journey of pitch perfect live vocal goodness and sincerity from the singer, we confidently say that Kyung Soo did it again and won our hearts. We were all left wanting more. Ground floor fans did hit the jackpot though when he spontaneously ran down stage and did a quick lap around the venue during the last encore song, with a few lucky ones getting a quick high five from him as he made his way past the crowd.

While we are not sure when Kyung Soo will return again for his next show, he did say “See you again soon” – which we cannot help but speculate, and wish that maybe another concert or release is in the works.
